SUMMARY: Volunteer at the Oregon Food Bank and discuss the impacts of hunger
DESCRIPTION: Because our volunteer community has been doing such an incredible job of repacking food, the Oregon Food Bank is experimenting with new ways to harness some of that energy and power! One way we're doing this is by instituting a new kind of volunteer shift.

On select Wednesday evening shifts, the first hour of the shift will be spent in group discussion examining the impacts of hunger, the prevalence and demographics of hunger, and how we can fight it. These discussions will focus on root causes, particularly racism and other forms of oppression, and examine current ways that our government perpetuates injustice and inequality. The second hour of the shift will consist of repacking food to ensure families experiencing hunger have something to eat today, and will also provide an opportunity for volunteers to engage with policy advocacy to ensure our neighbors have something to eat in the future!

Upcoming shifts using this model: November 13, December 4, and December 11. All evening shifts run from 6-8 pm. Volunteers must register for the shift in advance at https://www.oregonfoodbank.org/get-involved/volunteer/

Shifts fill up quickly, but check back often to see if space has opened up. If you are a student or work with a partner agency and would like to attend, please let me know and we can see about adding you to the roster.

Due to high volume this time of year, walk-in volunteers cannot be acommodated.
